Sociologist, teacher, researcher, writer. Never thought of myself as an environmentalist until I moved to New Zealand. When a country uses so much poison that is banned in the rest of the world - with seemingly no regard for humanity, there's got to be a sociological explanation - this exploration is about finding one. 19 December: leaving North Island for a bit...

Evans Bay Marina Wellington (Free Freedom Camp)

This is a great facility to be near the ferry – but it’s very busy! If you’re planning to stay here, be sure to get there early to secure place or even queue for people to leave if necessary. Facilities are for boaties, but clean and tidy. Friendly care-taker is supporter for the apparent miscarriage of justice in the Marlborough murder case. (I had never heard of this, but Justin had read all about it, which pleased the warden no end).

View over the harbour from the camping spot on the quayside

In the evening we met with our friends John & Bev and had dinner at the German bar Munich in Wellington quayside. They serve the most enormous dishes and their speciality pork hock is amazing! The roads were surprisingly quiet overnight and luckily we didn't have an early-morning ferry crossing, so we had a bit of time for sight-seeing....
