Sociologist, teacher, researcher, writer. Never thought of myself as an environmentalist until I moved to New Zealand. When a country uses so much poison that is banned in the rest of the world - with seemingly no regard for humanity, there's got to be a sociological explanation - this exploration is about finding one. 17 January: Alexandra and more trout fishing

Alexandra NZMCA Camp

We knew we needed to be in Wanaka to meet with friends on the 18th, so we stopped o/n at Alexandra. This was a car-park type place, but conveniently located near to the town (for fishing gear) and next door to the community swimming-pool (for hot spa and showers).

We noted the paradox of being asked to save water when the sprinklers came on at 8am to water the nicely kept lawns at the side of the pavement. Lots of new building going on here. Friendly people but we didn't have much time to explore. Definitely one to return to.
